Frequently asked
Do I need an account to use Orbit?
No. Every feature works signed out and offline. You only sign in if you want your day synced across your devices. You can start using Orbit the moment you open it.
How does sync keep my data private?
When you turn on sync, your tasks, chat, documents, display name and photo are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Our servers store only encrypted data, and the key that unlocks it never leaves your devices. We cannot read your content.
My alarm did not ring. What should I check?
Orbit uses the system alarm feature, which asks for permission the first time. Make sure you allowed alarms when prompted. Granted alarms are designed to ring through Silent mode and Focus. You can review every alarm Orbit has scheduled in the meeting alarm screens, and check permissions in the app's Settings. Alarms behave fully on a real device.
How do meeting alarms work?
Connect your calendar and Orbit adds an alarm before each meeting, by default five minutes before. You can set the lead time for a single meeting or as a rule, turn the bell off for events you do not need, and choose whether all-day or declined events are skipped. Alarms are scheduled on a rolling window and Orbit adds ones further out as the day approaches.
How do I unlock and search my vault?
The vault unlocks with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. Once unlocked, Orbit reads the text inside your documents on the device, so you can search by what is written inside a scan, not just its title. Document titles, tags and categories stay searchable even while the vault is locked.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. Settings includes a data export that writes your content to a file you can save or share. The timesheet also exports to CSV, and vault documents have their own export flow.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings, then Account & Sync, then Delete Account. This removes your sign-in record, permanently deletes your data from our storage, and wipes the encrypted data and keys on your device. Deleted data also ages out of our rolling backups within 14 days.
Which sign-in methods are supported?
Sign in with Apple, Google, email or phone. Sign in with Apple lets you keep your email private. All of them only enable sync; none of them change the fact that your content is encrypted on your device.
Which devices does Orbit need?
Orbit is built for iPhone and iPad running the latest version of iOS and iPadOS. Some features, such as real alarms and the document camera, work on a physical device rather than a simulator.
I lost my recovery passphrase. Can you restore my content?
We cannot. Because your content is encrypted with a key we never hold, only your devices and your recovery passphrase can unlock it. As long as you are still signed in on one device, you can set a new recovery passphrase from Settings.
